What Is a Root Canal?

A root canal is a dental procedure used to treat infection or damage inside the tooth. When the pulp (the soft tissue containing nerves and blood vessels) becomes inflamed or infected, it can cause severe pain and sensitivity. A root canal removes the damaged tissue, disinfects the area, and seals the tooth to protect it from further issues.

How Root Canal Treatment Works

  1. Diagnosis – We examine your tooth and take X-rays to assess the damage.

  2. Numbing – Local anesthesia ensures the procedure is pain-free.

  3. Cleaning – The infected pulp is removed, and the canals are disinfected.

  4. Filling – The space is filled with a biocompatible material.

  5. Restoration – The tooth is sealed and usually restored with a crown for strength and function.

The entire process typically takes 1–2 visits, and most patients return to normal activities the next day.
